How did you hear about the Race Around Ireland?

Ex. pat member of Swords Cycling Club.

What made you make up your mind to take part in this event?

Through my brother Peter who is quite active on the Dublin cycling scene.

What concerns do you have about the Race Around Ireland?

I competed in a 24 hour race in Germany with Peter (my brother) and some friends, we thoroughly enjoyed it and actually did quite well.  Afterwards we agreed that we wanted to try something even more challenging.  RAI won the vote!

What concerns do you have about the Race Around Ireland?
What scares me most is a potential repeat of the saddle-sore I got while riding the L2P London-Paris cyclosportive in 2009 - those three days taught me the true meaning of pain.  Apart from that, I guess it would be getting lost due to my absolute lack of familiarity with the route and having a mechanical issue at 3am on a stormy night in some of the most isolated parts of the country.

What are you most looking forward to in the Race Around Ireland?

Having the giddy excitement and nervous, apprehensive feelings that come with taking part in a challenge of such magnitude. I am also looking forward to the afters, when I can sit down in a pub somewhere with the rest of the lads from the team and chat about what we just did.  Everything in between is a bonus.

Cycling or athletic history, cycling results etc:

Some races, cyclosportives and 24 hour races in Belgium, France, Germany (where I live) and Ireland.

Who do you most admire in sport and why?

The people who volunteer to marshal and coordinate events, without them we would have nothing.

What is your motto for the Race Around Ireland?

Twofold:

1) Never forget that I chose to do this and

2) Keep the pedals turning and the finish line will get closer.
